Siegfried provided surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services for the City of Sunnyvale’s Sense of Place Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement project. The grant-funded project focused on enhancing safety, accessibility, and connectivity throughout east Sunnyvale through improvements to sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, and intersections.
Working alongside the project team, Siegfried supported the design of new sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, landscaped pedestrian buffers, multi-use paths, and bicycle improvements. Additional enhancements included pedestrian bulb-outs, bus stop upgrades, traffic signal modifications, and improved intersection configurations to shorten crossing distances and increase visibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The project also evaluated new pedestrian crossing signals and incorporated green infrastructure features, including low-impact development (LID) areas for stormwater treatment and retention.
Improvements at key intersections, including Wolfe Road and Stewart Drive, addressed pedestrian crossing distances and traffic signal detection systems. Through coordinated design and planning, the Sense of Place project supports safer, more accessible routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users while improving connectivity throughout the community.
