Swain Road and Montauban Avenue in Stockton serve as important east-west and north-south corridors. The City of Stockton recognized the need to increase safety and efficiency while at the same time reducing congestion by converting a four-way stop controlled intersection with a roundabout at the intersection of these two roads.

Siegfried was selected to convert the four-way stop controlled intersection into a roundabout as well as to upgrade wheelchair ramps for ADA compliance, improving drainage, installing signs, striping, street lighting, and fiber optic cable for Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) Cameras with interconnect to the City’s Traffic Management Center (TMC), and evaluating crossings to see if Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) were needed which they were not. A comprehensive public outreach program that acknowledged the sensitivities and needs of the residential community affected by the improvements was also a part of this project. Additionally, Siegfried provided a comprehensive study of infill treatments for the roundabout that took into consideration sight lines, aesthetics, maintenance, and longevity. Working collaboratively with City staff, a long-lasting solution was found that met all the required criteria.

In addition to civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, traffic engineering, and environmental compliance documentation, our team also provided full construction contract documents including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and environmental clearance for the City’s roundabout project. There were no design or construction change orders for this project and it was completed on time and within budget.
