For seven decades, Siegfried has been a pillar of creativity, innovation, and unwavering dedication to building a better future for our community. After serving in the Navy and being the officer in charge of the development of Rough and Ready Island in the Port of Stockton, Robert W. Siegfried began his post-war career with a small local Stockton firm, where he honed his expertise and forged key professional relationships. His ambition, driven by a vision for the future, led to the formation of R.W. Siegfried & Associates in 1955 where the office was located at the corner of El Dorado and Pine. This bold step laid the groundwork for a firm that would go on to shape the landscape of Northern and Central California for generations.

Over the years, Siegfried evolved into a multidisciplinary firm offering civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, and partnering services. Today, it stands as one of the largest design and engineering firms headquartered in San Joaquin County, with additional offices in Sacramento, Modesto, and San Jose. Siegfried has built a reputation as one of the foremost professional services firms in the region, recognized for solving complex challenges with innovative approaches and technical expertise. Our projects not only meet the highest standards of quality but also create lasting impacts on the communities we serve.
From its early days, Siegfried demonstrated a pioneering spirit. In the late 1950s, the firm began its 45-year tenure as city engineer for the City of Ripon. During the 1960s, Siegfried played a pivotal role in the development of Lincoln Village West, one of the largest subdivisions in the area, and a pioneer in utilizing man-made lakes as water-detention basins while simultaneously providing a waterfront experience for the owner. Additionally, Siegfried served as the reclamation district engineer for critical levee systems for over 45 years. By 1966, the company had purchased land and built its headquarters at 4045 Coronado Avenue in Stockton, where it expanded its workforce to 65 staff members and tripled the building size over time.

Throughout the 1970s, Siegfried collaborated with the Stockton Redevelopment Agency on transformative projects, including the development of the Stockton south channel bank, north banks, and various seawall and promenade initiatives. This period marked the firm’s growing influence on the region’s urban development. In the 1980s and 1990s, Siegfried’s innovative engineering shaped Quail Lakes and Brookside. Brookside is a cutting-edge golf course and water-oriented community with wide trails and bike lanes that were well ahead of their time. To this day Siegfried continues to serve as the reclamation district engineer for the project’s levees.

The firm underwent significant milestones in the 1990s. In 1992, Robert Siegfried retired, and the company incorporated and was renamed Siegfried Engineering, Inc. Embracing new technologies, Siegfried invested in computer-assisted design, enhancing its ability to deliver high-quality solutions. The 2000s saw the firm add landscape architecture as a discipline and contributing to landmark projects such as the DeCarli Square seawall, plaza, and cineplex, as well as the Historic Hotel Stockton Renovation, RTD Transit Center, Waterfront Plaza Hotel, Arena, Ballpark, and County WorkNet complex. In 2005, Siegfried celebrated its 50th anniversary, with Mayor Edward Chavez recognizing the company’s defining role in the growth of Stockton and San Joaquin County. Sadly, at age 86 Robert Siegfried passed way in 2006 leaving behind a legacy of transformative projects in the central valley.
In 2008, Siegfried relocated its corporate office after 41 years at its Coronado location. The following years marked a period of expansion and innovation. In 2010, the firm opened new offices in San Jose and Sacramento and hired its first LEED Accredited Professional, reflecting a commitment to sustainable design. That same year, Siegfried provided engineering services for the LEED Platinum UC Davis Student Community Center Design-Build project. By 2014, the firm’s design-build resume had surpassed $750 million, and by 2017, it exceeded $1 billion. Notable projects during this time included the $6 million UCSC Quarry Amphitheater Renovation and Siegfried’s 20th UC project.
Siegfried continued to grow and adapt, acquiring Beals Alliance in 2015 and opening a Modesto office in 2018. In 2019, the firm purchased and renovated a new office building in Stockton at 3428 Brookside Road, underscoring its ongoing investment in the community. By 2020, Siegfried celebrated its 65th anniversary, reflecting on a rich history of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Building on that legacy, in 2022, we expanded our services by adding geotechnical engineering, further enhancing our ability to meet our clients’ diverse needs. The following year, in 2023, we made another significant move, relocating our Sacramento office from Old Sacramento to the growing Natomas area, improving accessibility and better positioning ourselves to serve the region. In 2024, we took another step forward by achieving AASHTO accreditation for our geotechnical laboratory, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability in our work.

The company’s multidisciplinary approach has proven invaluable, allowing teams to work seamlessly together under one roof. This integration streamlines costs, enhances functionality, and ensures that projects are approached holistically. Furthermore, the firm has seen significant growth in the healthcare, education, and infrastructure markets between 2005 and now, expanding our expertise and impact across various communities that we both live in and serve. Through creative solutions and trusted partnerships, Siegfried has helped shape essential facilities that support learning, wellness, and connectivity. It’s clear Siegfried’s contributions to the development of cities throughout the Central Valley, Bay Area, and beyond are significant, even if not always immediately visible to the public. From engineering vital infrastructure to shaping vibrant communities, Siegfried’s work has left an indelible mark on the region.
As Siegfried looks to the future, the company remains committed to advancing innovation, delivering exceptional service, and building a better future for generations to come. In 2025, we are proudly celebrating 70 years of service, a milestone that reflects our enduring dedication to excellence and our deep-rooted connection to the communities we serve. With a focus on growth, collaboration, and quality, we look forward to continuing our legacy and achieving even greater successes in the years ahead.
