Requirements for the project include expansion of the existing parking lot to provide an adequate amount of additional stalls for the new Veterinary Medicine Administration building as well as future site facilities, including the Veterinary Medicine 3B Building, Arboretum Visitor Center, and Arboretum Headquarters.
The project also requires a significant amount of interface with the adjacent Arboretum expansion efforts, including pedestrian and bicycle circulation throughout the area. Low-impact stormwater runoff solutions were planned to avoid direct discharge into Putah Creek. Additionally, Siegfried converted a portion of the existing Putah Creek Drive from auto traffic to bicycle and pedestrian only by physically reducing the pavement section, and providing designs for constructed wetlands and restoration of native grasslands. All design efforts will be integrated into the main campus utility corridor, connect with the realignment of Garrod Drive, and create a balanced landscape program that screens certain views, provides additional shade, frames views to the Arboretum and provides for overall improved safety measures.
