Siegfried provided civil engineering, structural engineering, and surveying for the UC Merced Central Utility Plant (CUP) Upgrade. This project expanded the existing plant’s capacity by 2,500 tons and corrected operational deficiencies.
The upgrades included adding two chiller units to increase cooling capacity and allow for multiple operation options, VFD and compressor upgrades for the existing chillers, upgrading the piping and hazardous material containment system at the chilled water chemical treatment system, adding row cooling for the Telecommunication Center which is served by the central plant, and upgrading the campus water system with RPBFP, 12″ underground piping and a storage tank bypass system.
The Siegfried team had several utilities to coordinate while working on a live site, including ensuring campus emergency power would remain during construction, upgrading telecommunications and ensuring they stayed functional during the process, all while working with a live water line and building the bypass to complete the upgrades.
Siegfried worked with Otto Construction and AEI for this project.
